Session 1 - 05 July (12:00 - 14:00)

Welcome from SAP University Alliances - De Wet Naude, Head of SAP University Alliances & SAP Next-Gen Sub-Saharan Africa

This session will consist of a brief welcome on behalf of the SAP University Alliances team in Africa, highlighting the current activities of SAP University Universities on the African Continent. Additional topics to be covered will include a general overview of SAP UA offerings to universities, a brief overview of a new SAP Campus Ambassador initiative for Sub-Saharan Africa and insight into new offerings, products and services.

Overview of SAP UA / Partner / Chapter program

In this part of the agenda various programmes will be discussed.  Christiane Bauer will explain how we connect with young leaners, how we bring them in contact with SAP technology, methodologies people and culture, to motivate a life long love for learning.  Gwamaka Mwalemba will talk about Enterprise Systems Education for Africa – ESEFA, our flagship programme specifically designed for universities in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Jerry Ansen from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology with discuss how their Centre for Enterprise Research Partnership and Innovation in Africa (CERPIA) tackles the  the integrated digital business systems divide between industry and graduates in Africa. De Wet Naude will give and overview of the assets available in the new edition of the SAP Learning Hub – Edition for Next-Gen. From further afield Alp Geckalan, representing the SAP Technology Development Institute in Dubai (TDI), will explain how TDI supports the African continent with eh Skills for Africa programme, focusing on three elements – Young Professional Program (YPP) and the Dual Study Program(DSP).  Finally, Kwena Mabotja will provide an overview of the SAP, thought sponsoring the regional Startup Guides, supports start-ups, innovators, investors though the sponsorship of the Startup-Guides for African regions.


Session 2 - 06 July (12:00 - 14:00)

SAP Industry Presentation - "Closing the gap between Technology and Business" - Dumisani Moyo, Head of Mid-Market SAP Africa

It is common knowledge that there is a distinction between theoretical learning and actual application in practise. In this regard, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to apply their knowledge in the workplace remains a top priority. Dumisani Moyo, SAP Africa's Head of Mid-Market, will share some insights and experiences on how companies are leveraging technology to drive sustainable and efficient businesses that are resilient to external shocks such as COVID. Additionally, how we can prepare our graduates to hit the ground running when they enter the corporate world.

Board Portfolio Presentation 1 - "Research and Collaborative Innovation Post Covid-19" - Victor Oladokun 

Multidisciplinary collaboration refers to engagements and structures that bring together experts from diverse subject areas, disciplines and professional callings to jointly work on a problem. Most often these are complex problems that require insights and principles across multiple disciplines. Interestingly, many of the challenges confronting our societies today are complex problems. For instance a look at the seventeen sustainable development goals  (SDG) will readily show that addressing  each of the goals require multidisciplinary and cross discipline efforts. Meanwhile any community of scholars that wants to remain relevant to the society and industry must continue to evolve resilient collaborative strategies that can work in the face of disruptive changes such as the being witnessed post covid-19 era. This session will examine the need to generate innovative framework for collaboration within the ESEFA network.

Board Portfolio Presentation 2 - Olufemi Adetunji

The team will report back on activities of the past year – due to the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic progress has been slower than expected. Items under discussion will be – creation of a generic business case presentation, collaboration with SAP User Groups and liaison with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Session 3 - 07 July (12:00 - 14:00)

Overview on S/4 HANA PlatformGwamaka Mwalemba

SAP is phasing out their ERP ECC system and replacing it with the SAP S/4HANA system. The new S/4HANA ERP comes with significant changes on the interface as well as the underlying data architecture which has been optimised for analytics. To align with the changes in the industry, the SAP University Alliance has also set up a similar initiative aimed at phasing out teaching systems based on ERP ECC and replacing them with SAP S/4HANA. Responding to this initiative, the ESEFA team has upgraded all the ESEFA ERP curriculum and align them to the new S/4HANA system. The purpose of this session will be to provide an overview of the changes to the ESEFA curriculum as well as outline the next steps in the migration process as we approach the 30th September deadline.

Advanced Reporting/Analytics with Tableau - Kudzai Katsidzira

With volumes and rates of data increasing exponentially, organizations and business leaders are tasked with going through this data. Data sitting in data warehouses is not meaningful or informative until it has been analysed and interpretive. With large volumes of data being stored, it is important now more than ever, to have more individuals retrieving insights from this data. Data analysis requires a certain set of skills and unfortunately, that skill is scarce. Organizations are putting pressure on higher education institutions to incorporate data analytic modules in their programs as a way to try to cover the skills gap. The ESEFA  program that incorporates a reporting and BI Curriculum to assist in covering the skills gap in Africa through its curriculum using a new tool - Tableau.

Global Bike & other SAP Curriculum & Software - Stefan Weidner

In this session, Stefan presents an overview of additional teaching material available to you as members of the global SAP University Alliances program. SAP UCC Magdeburg has been the lead curriculum contributor for Enterprise Resource Planning, Business Intelligence, Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management and Internet of Things. Stefan introduces teaching and learning environments for both SAP on-premise and cloud solutions. The teaching material is based on the model company Global Bike. Due to its modularization and independent student work, it can easily be integrated in virtual or distant academic courses.


Session 4 - 08 July (12:00 - 14:00)

Collaboration and co-creation when teaching online - D-School (UCT)

This session will look at how the Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking at UCT supported collaboration and co-creation in our online design thinking programmes during the pandemic, with the focus on turning online work into a positive and creative experience for students rather than something onerous. Two case studies will provide an overview of the various tools and techniques that were experimented with, the lessons learnt for creating cohesion in student project teams and what we will be trying to do differently in the future.

Facilitating Student Team Industry Projects during COVID-19  - Lisa Seymour, Principal Researcher ESEFA (UCT)

Organising team industry projects for students is challenging. During the COVID pandemic when students and companies were working remotely this was particularly challenging.  In this session we share some of the challenges and successes of attempting this with a third year UCT information systems course during the first COVID wave in South Africa.

Remote Assessment methods during Covid-19  – Zarine Cadersaib, Senior Lecturer (UOM)

With the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, higher learning institutions have to rethink and adapt their teaching, learning and assessment practices. This situation has created new challenges regarding assessment methods. How do we ensure that assessments are done in a fair manner while ensuring quality and also taking on board resource limitations for both the institution and the students? The aim of this session is to share the experience and practices used at the University of Mauritius to respond to these challenges in 2021 during the second Covid-19 period.
